Trio performance of Tomomi Adachi, Dafna Naphtali and Chuck Bettis– unique combinations of voice, electronics, audio machinations, self-made electronics, and sound poetry. Expect outrageous adventures into vocal/sound manipulation, and expect unexpected forays into inner dialogues with intense interaction.
Bios:
ADACHI Tomomi (voice, sensors, computer, self-made instruments, sound poetry): Tomomi Adachi is a performer/composer, sound poet, instrument builder and visual artist. Known for his versatile style, he develops his own instruments and sensor systems, notably his self-made instrument named “Tomomin” has been used by many musicians, his sensor system for gesture and live-processing of his own voice “Voice and Infrared-sensor shirt” has been performed more than 100 times all over the world. He presents large size site-specific compositions for groups of professional musicians and amateur musicians. He has performed improvised music and contemporary music/performance works by John Cage, Cornelius Cardew, Christian Wolff, Tom Johnson and others. Venues and festivals he presented his works include Tate Modern, Maerzmusik, Centre Pompidou, ZKM, Merkin Hall, STEIM, Experimental Intermedia, Poesiefestival Berlin and Melbourne International Arts Festival. He has performed with numerous musicians including Jaap Blonk, Nicolas Collins, TAKAHASHI Yuji, Carl Stone, Annette Krebs, Ute Wassermann, SAKATA Akira, Jennifer Walshe, ICHIYANAGI Toshi, Jerome Noetinger, Zbigniew Karkowski and OTOMO Yoshihide. He has composed many voice pieces for untrained vocal ensemble, he had led a punk choir “Adachi Tomomi Royal Chorus,” also several pieces for solo instrumentalist and ensemble. As the only Japanese performer of sound poetry, he performed Kurt Schwitters’ “Ursonate” as a Japan premiere in 1996 and has introduced Japanese sound poetry tradition. Also he directed Japanese premiere of John Cage’s “Europera5” in 2007 and “Variations VII” in 2011. CDs include the solo album from Tzadik, Omegapoint and naya records. He stayed in New York from 2009 to 2010 as a grantee of Asian Cultural Council. He was a guest of the Artists-in-Berlin Program of the DAAD for 2012. http://www.adachitomomi.com
CHUCK BETTIS (electronics / throat)was raised in the fertile harDCore soil, nourished within Baltimore’s enigmatic avant garde gatherings, and currently blossoming in New York’s downtown musical tribe. His unique blend of electronics and throat has led him into various collaborations. He has performed live with John Zorn, Fred Frith, Jamie Saft, and Afrirampo to name a few. Some of the musicians Bettis has recorded and played live with are as follows; Ikue Mori, Nautical Almanac, Audrey Chen, Yellow Swans, Toshio Kajiwara, Mick Barr, etc, plus a long history of punk bands he was in (most notably the experimental punk band Meta-matics as well as the enigmatic All Scars). Currently he is working on many of his experimental projects such as Mossenek with Mick Barr, Brown Wing Overdrive with Mikey IQ Jones & Derek Morton, Mudang Rouge with Jerry Lim & Evan Rapport, Period with Mike Pride & Charlie Looker, Hell Hoarse with Brendan Murray, Pretty Clicks with Berangere Maximin, and Chatterblip with Dafna Naphtali, in addition to improvising, recording, or composing with an array of musicians from around the world. http://chuckbettis.com
Dafna Naphtali (voice / audio manipulation) is a singer/instrumentalist/electronic-musician, who composes/performs experimental, interactive electro- acoustic music (since the mid-90’s) using her custom Max/MSP programming for live sound processing of voice and other instruments. She draws on an eclectic musical background in jazz, classical, rock and near-eastern music, and as performer she also interprets the music of Cage, Stockhausen and contemporary composers, in a large variety of projects with well-regarded musicians around the world. Dafna has received fellowships and awards including from New York Foundation for the Arts (2013 Music/Sound , 2001 Computer Arts), New York State Council on the Arts, Franklin Furnace, American Composers Forum, Foundation for Contemporary Arts and American Music Center, and has recorded several CDs, including “What is it Like to be a Bat?” a digital punk trio with Kitty Brazelton (on Tzadik). https://dafna.info/

Bios:
Ofer Bymel /////// A leading Israeli drummer and improviser, Bymel has played with an extensive amount of musicians from Israel and abroad. Using his immense musicality combined with a vast palette of sounds and techniques, he is capable of playing an impressive range of effects: from the extremely soft and delicately inaudible to the harsh and explosive. Bymel has also led, and took part in many Improvised Music and Free-Jazz groups in Israel, as well as recently in Germany.
