Dark, sometimes brooding ensemble passages mix and mingle with tightly woven drum-loops, and extended solo cadenzas build up to a mighty hymn to machine work, music of a metallic nightmare. • Notes: HANS TAMMEN & THIRD EYE ORCHESTRA: PIKAIA Hans Tammen uses Earle Brown’s open form composition idea as a starting point to create a large multimovement piece for string and wind quartets, keyboards, rhythm section, voice and live sound processing. The composer has gathered a dream-team of some of the most virtuosic instrumentalists to ever elude labels or boundaries for the premiere of his new work PIKAIA, which combines composed material with extemporization to create a score whose modus operandi is constant change on every level. All About Jazz called the music “nothing short of breathtaking”, and “a masterpiece of musical evocation”. PLOrk: Princeton Laptop Orchestra will premiere my work “Audio Chandelier/TILT” April 24th, 2013
in Princeton. The piece is related to my solo multi-channel work “Audio Chandelier” using granular synthesis of field recordings and close miked sounds dispersed across many audio channels. In this case there is not only one speaker per “grain”, but also one person/laptop in control of it.

For Tymp The New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival will take place April 2-6, 2013 at the CUNY Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue, and at various other locations throughout New York City. It is dedicated to showcasing the best electroacoustic music and video art from all over the world in New York City, through a multi-day festival in different venues throughout the city. The festival will include electroacoustic music recorded alone in up to eight channels, works involving live electronics, works combining musical instruments or voices with recorded or live electronics, video and multimedia works, and audio and video installations.
